About us

Well my names April, I’m 17 living in the UK. Im studying A-levels at the moment, but hope to one day be a dog trainer and help other people make the lives of there dogs better. I’m not really anything special, just a young dog trainer trying to be the best I can be. Everything we do is just for fun. Thats really my philosophy on training, life and everything really. Everything I do is just for fun. I train my dogs because I just love working with them and developing our bond. I compete because I want to show the world what we can do! Im naturally a very shy, quiet person and at school I prefer to keep to myself. But with my dogs I know I am doing the one thing I am good at and the one thing I can actually do. That gives me the confidence to go out there and compete and show off my amazing dogs.

I have 3 dogs, Ernie a little Jack Russell Terrier cross, Kez a little Australian Kelpie cross and Indi an English Springer Spaniel. They were all leftover puppies/rescue which means they all came with confidence issues. Were working through them though, and there teaching me lots along the way :) .

At the moment I only really compete with my little Kez in obedience and agility, Ernie sometimes also does a few agility runs. They’ve all done a couple of shows, but Indi needs work on his reactiveness and confidence before we can even think about anything else. My aim with my dogs is never to win. My aim is to test my training and help myself become a better handler and trainer for my dogs. As I get more involved I am preferring obedience as it is such a challenge and really tests the bond between handler and dog. I do love agility though, it was the sport I always dreamed of doing but never got the chance. Now I do have the chance, and love every second. Kez is just a dream to run too, she puts her heart and soul into everything she does :) .

I make plenty of mistakes, and spent the first 16 years of my life brought up with dominance based training techniques. Only since about March of this year (2011) have I really started focusing on the behaviour side of things more and am realising how wrong all those methods were. I feel very guilty for all the bad methods I’ve used on all 3 of my dogs, but the fact we are finally doing things right and getting results does make me smile. I know I still have a long way to go, but giving up is not something I tend to do ;) . So this is really my journey, and it sure isn’t a simple one!

Oh and all the photos on here were taken by me (except flyball ones) unless otherwise stated. So they are copywrited to me! Just so you know :) .

Enjoy, and do leave comments! We love getting feedback. I’m new to the world of dog training, new to the world of blogging and new to the world of agility and obedience. So there will be mistakes, but its with the mistakes that I’m learning :) .
